This year during Valentine's week the Palmyra Area Middle School library hosted a Scholastic book fair. Students had the opportunity to purchase books, posters and school supplies to support the library. Justin Bieber posters were a hit with the girls but students also showed their love for books with enough purchases for the library to earn over $2,000 in Scholastic dollars. Our Scholastic dollars will be used to purchase new books for the middle school library!
Horton and some other Dr. Seuss characters are on display in the library. The library celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2 with Mrs. Hoover reading her favorite Dr. Seuss book The Cat in the Hat. Mrs. Mellott read The Boy on Fairfield Street about Dr. Seuss's early years. Green Eggs and Ham was read to sixth grade lunch bunch book club and Mrs. Mellott was surprised by how many students could still recite many of the lines, "I do not like them Sam I am."
As part of Unified Arts Day for Eighth grade, author Debra Moffitt will be spending some time here at Palmyra Area Middle School on Friday March 11th. Mrs. Moffitt has written a series for middle school girls entitled The Pink Locker Society. Check out Mrs. Moffitt's website to read the first chapter of Only Girls Allowed and some other cool stuff.
